Last week I was asked by Farfetch to enter their exclusive blogger competition by writing a piece on how I would organise Australian Fashion Week and I thought it would be a great entry for Vacant Lake. The challenge involves discussing where you would hold it, what labels you would show, who you would have seated in the front row and what you would wear.
I'm not particularly familiar with Sydney locations - especially large warehouse buildings - but I know that I'd want to hold my Fashion Week in some kind of abandoned piece of architecture heaven. You know... assuming that it were structurally sound.
With a little research I came across the Dunlop-Slazenger Factory in Alexandria (pictured and you can see more photographs here). An abandoned building with a room with lots of graffiti and holes throughout the roof that lets beams of light shine through to make the whole place look like a galaxy - amazing! A bit of cleaning (but making sure to leave the marks of history intact) and some long bench seats makes the perfect venue for Fashion Week. (FYI I have no idea if this is a feasible venue but we can all dream, right?!)
I'd love the week to feature designs from labels like Bless'ed Are The Meek, Camilla and Marc, Karla Spetic, Christopher Esber, Ellery and Cameo - neutral designs that contrast against their bright, edgy surroundings and have some of Australia's biggest fashion influencers in the front row. People like Sara Donaldson of Harper and Harley and Nicole Warne of Gary Pepper along with some of our overseas friends like Nicole Richie and Whitney Port. See Exhibit A:
Since fashion week lasts roughly five days, I've chosen five outfits from Farfetch's online collection that I would wear day by day in the below gallery. There is a varying degree of price points on their website, but since most of you - like me - wouldn't be likely to be spending $1000's of dollars on each item, I tried to stick by a max price of $500 to be marginally realistic (with one exception - the Vera Wang dress because I just had to 😍).
Day 1: Mm6 Maison Marginal trousers, Narciso Rodriguez bralet, Ginger & Smart sandals, Marni earrings, Red Valentino clutch Day 2: Vera Wang dress, See by Chloé boots, Moschino clutch, Aurelie Bidermann earrings Day 3: Diesel blazer, Amapô jeans, Astraet t-shirt, Osklen flats, Tory Burch bag, Chiara Ferrangi iphone case Day 4: Giamba top and shorts, Hogan boots, Bao Bao Issey Miyake clutch, Monies bracelet Day 5: Dorothee Schumacher top, Ginger & Smart skirt, Michael Michael Kors pumps, Tory Burch bag
I'd like to think Australian Fashion Week at Dunlop-Slazenger would be a hit! But I'd also love to hear what you all think and what you, yourself would do differently!
