Summer has just waved goodbye, which means we’re going to have shorter days and much less heat soon. Some of you might have plans to escape winter by jetting off to somewhere that's warm all year round, but what about those of us who can’t escape the cold? Here's some tips to help you create an effortless beach chic look in the city this season.
Maxi dresses are great as they’re designed to give you an easy, light-as-a-feather feeling as they catch the wind. Wear a contrasting coloured t-shirt and some footless tights underneath for extra warmth in the cooler months.
Must-Have: A soft patterned maxi dress.
Jeans and sand do not mix, but denim shorts are perfect. Pair your shorts with a navy or pastel coloured jumper during in-between weather. Rough up an old pair of denim shorts for a faux worn-in look.
Must-Have: Washed out, roughed denim jean shorts.
The beach is a place for relaxation and nothing is more comfortable than a pair of linen pants. Pair them with a loose crop top.
Must-Have: A light neutral tone pair of linen pants.
You should wear jewellery that you know looks great on you and you feel comfortable wearing. So, even if it fits in aesthetically with the "beach" theme, if you don’t feel yourself in it, don’t wear it. Simplicity is always flattering if you're not sure.
Must-Have: A silver chain and pendant.
When it comes to bags, it’s essential we find one that’s big enough to cater to all our needs. Most of us will opt for a tote bag at the beach, so why not introduce it to your city-beach look.
Must-Have: A bright tote bag to add a pop of colour.
Sadly, you’re not at the beach but you can still wear summer appropriate shoes like sandals that will compliment your outfit. If you’re looking for something with a bit of zest you can try jewel-encrusted, rhinestone-encrusted or fabric-wrapped sandals.
Must-Have: A pair of dainty sandals.
FOR THE CITY
When you can’t go to the beach, bring the beach to you. Tropical vacations are relaxing and the most important part of your perfect beach look in the city is the comfort and confidence you feel in what you're wearing.
